Our founder, Shurice Spivey, has always viewed the world through a scientific lens. Armed with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a Master's in Business Management, she understood the intricate systems that govern life and commerce. Yet, she found herself navigating a deeply personal and volatile reaction within: the chronic weight of anxiety and depression. The familiar logic of science and strategy offered little solace against the unpredictable nature of the human mind. This challenge became her new field of study.

Driven by a need for equilibrium, Shurice began a new series of experiments. Her home transformed into a sanctuary of creation, a personal lab dedicated to wellness. The meticulous precision she once applied to organisms she now applied to the gentle alchemy of candle making. Sustainable waxes were measured with scientific accuracy, lead-free wicks were centered with an artist’s care, and complex fragrance oils were blended like rare elements. Her mission: to formulate a tangible source of light that could push back the shadows. She was engineering serenity, one pour at a time.

In 2023, her hypothesis was proven. From this deeply personal journey, The Laboratory Candle Co. was officially founded. As a proudly certified minority and women-owned business in 2025, we are a testament to the power of resilience, innovation, and the Hoosier spirit of craftsmanship. Every candle we produce is hand-poured right here in Indiana, carrying with it a story of turning struggle into strength.
